Dr. Yoshie Iya (, supervisor of this exhibition ), will talk about the background of how Japanese porcelain was popularized and loved in the American market from the late 19th to the early 20th century, while viewing the exhibited works. Free of charge.
Nippon ・ Coffee Cup Story - Coffee Cups Americans Called Nippon and Loved", a special exhibition to be held at Nippon Gallery from March 28 ( Friday ). While viewing the exhibited works with Dr. Yoshie Iya, the exhibition's supervisor, we will hear about the background of how Japanese porcelain became popular and loved in the American market from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.

Dr. Yoshie Iya is a researcher specializing in the history of modern export crafts and has studied how Japanese porcelain developed in overseas markets. After completing her M.A. ( Aesthetics ) at Kwansei Gakuin University, she studied Modern Export Craft History at SOAS University of London Graduate School, where she received her M.A. ( Distinction ). He then completed his Ph.D. at the Orient Institute, Oxford University, and received his D.Phil ( Doctor of Philosophy ) in 2006 for his doctoral thesis on modern export porcelain, including Old ・ Noritake. He served as a specially-appointed professor at the Global Support Center of Tokyo University of the Arts from 2015 to 2023, and is currently a visiting professor at Teikyo University and a part-time lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts. He also serves as President of the Japan Coffee Culture Society, President of the Contemporary Handicraft Artists Association, and Representative Director of the International Crafts Exchange, and is widely active in the fields of cultural exchange and craft studies.
